Nairobi's ODM youth leader Stephen Mukabana's killing comes barely two years after the cold-blood murder of his friend Achok, a land dealer who built his ruthless reputation by wining jobless youth to his side.

The 'president' as he was popularly known, Achok encouraged youth to form self-help groups that would later encroach on idle land whose leases had expired or nearing expiry. He had loyal followers in Chokaa and Obama estate.

He was shot dead in broad daylight on October 4, 2014 along Manyanja Road in Umoja estate while heading to town. The assailants in a vehicle trailing behind, first blocked his, aimed at the driver before going for Achok who was occupying the back seat.

Before the slaying, Achok had taken a low profile after fearing for his safety. He had started relocating to his rural home in Homa Bay County and was planning to establish a gold-mining business in Migori.

The killers have never been apprehended and investigations at the Buru Buru Police Station seem to have stalled. CORD leader Raila Odinga leader attended burial of the devout Legio Maria faithful in Karachuonyo.

The former PM urged the government to publish all the expired land leases to avert land rows leading to killings. He said there are communities who were uprooted to create room for firms whose leases are expiring.

"Those communities are hoping they will get some consideration when what was formerly their land reverts to the public," Raila stated at Achok's funeral.
