Couple among six people killed in road accidents

Six people died in separate road crashes in Nakuru and Baringo counties on Sunday.

In Nakuru, four church members including a couple lost their lives after a motorcycle they were riding on collided with a matatu at Technology Farm, along the Nakuru-Njoro road.

The four were heading to Nakuru town from Ngata where they had held prayers at a piece of land the church had purchased for their bishop.

The couple, Timothy Githahi and Margaret Nyambura, died on the spot after the matatu hit their motorcycle and dragged it for about 30 metres.

Sophia Kageha also died at the scene while the fourth victim, Michael Muswahili, succumbed to serious injuries at the casualty section of the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital (PGH).

Ms Kageha's husband, George Kya, said he was informed about the demise of his wife by church members who attended the after-church service prayer at 6pm.

"She was everything to me and my children, now she is gone forever. Though I have seen her body, I am yet to be convinced that the mother of my children has left us," said the father of six, while weeping outside the PGH morgue.

Pastor Solomon Munyoki said the church management had organised the "site prayers" after the Sunday service.

"After the short prayer service, we left in different directions only to receive a distress phone call about the sad incident," he said.

In Baringo, two people died on the spot after a private vehicle with five occupants was involved in a grisly accident along the Marigat- Lake Bogoria road on Sunday.

Those who died on the spot included a relative to Phyllis Kandie, Labour and East African Community Cabinet Secretary and a son to Kilifi County director of education, Dickson ole Keis.
