Dad accused of murdering two-week-old baby daughter appears before court

Matthew Higham, 25, appeared before magistrates charged with the murder of Florence Higham, who died in hospital after being found with serious injuries at around 8pm on Wednesday night .

The Manchester Evening News reports police were called to a house in Stockport, Greater Manchester, after being alerted by paramedics.

Higham, of Shaw Road South, appeared in Stockport Magistrates Court this morning charged with the murder of the baby.

He appeared in the dock dressed all in grey and showed no emotion.

His hearing lasted less than five minutes and the case was Higham will next appear at Manchester Crown Court on Monday, August 3.

Officers were called to a house on Shaw Road South by paramedics following reports a two-week-old baby girl had stopped breathing at around 8.15pm on Wednesday.

The child was rushed to Stepping Hill Hospital but sadly later died.

A Home Office post mortem revealed the baby had died from multiple injuries.

Police remain at the scene outside the terraced home.
