Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti ousted as Chama Cha Uzalend party leader

Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) Governing Council yesterday replaced former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti as the party’s leader over alleged misconduct.

Her position has been filled by Machakos MP Victor Munyaka.

The resolution to oust Ms Ndeti was reached during a meeting at a Nairobi hotel attended by 67 delegates from 25 counties.

Among the delegates were Mr Munyaka and his Mwala counterpart Vincent Musyoka, and more than 20 CCU members of county assemblies.

Briefing the Press after more than five hours of deliberations, the party’s National Vice Chairman Richard Onsogo said the long-serving party leader was removed from office for violating party regulations.

Some of the accusations against her included being a sympathiser of the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) when she was the leader of a party that is an affiliate of the Jubilee coalition, and an attempt to ‘sell’ the party to an individual.

She was also accused of forming a parallel national executive council without the express authority of the governing council.

Mr Onsogo said the former party leader had been officially invited to the event, but she had declined to attend and did not send apologies.

He said Munyaka would act as the party leader until further notice.

ORDINARY MEMBER

“All the delegates present unanimously passed the resolution to remove her. She will now be an ordinary member of the party,” he said.

Efforts to contact Ms Ndeti for comment were fruitless as she could not be reached by phone.

CCU was one of several affiliates of Mwai Kibaki’s Party of National Unity in the 2007 General Election. The party is also among others that signed a post-poll pact with Jubilee.
