NYERI COUNTY: TNA MPs have started evoking President Uhuru Kenyatta’s name in the ongoing campaigns in Othaya, with a warning to voters that they risked embarrassing him if they fail to re-elect Mary Wambui.

The MPs Peris Tobiko (Kajiado East), Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika Town), Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu), Mburu Kahangara (Lari), Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati) and immediate former Othaya MP Wambui said Uhuru was keenly observing the campaigns and was hopeful that his party would recapture the seat.

INCOMPLETE TERM

Speaking during campaigns at Kihuri and Munyange, the leaders said it would be an embarrassment for President Kenyatta and the entire Jubilee Government, if TNA lost in its stronghold.

Ngunjiri said Wambui had proved to be an honest, hardworking and caring leader. “Know that the President sent us to come and tell you that he wants Wambui back in Parliament,” said Ngunjiri.

Ichung’wa warned that a loss for TNA in the April 29 by-election would mean a loss for Uhuru.

Tobiko said the upcoming by-election had taken Othaya and the entire country backwards because funds used could have been spent in other development projects. “In Kajiado, we were all in ODM, but moved to TNA. Failing to elect Wambui is like aborting a pregnancy, since you elected her and she did not complete her five-year term,” she said.

Ng’ang’a said Othaya would only develop if they re-elect Wambui.

She claimed that President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have authorised MPs in the Jubilee to ensure the party recaptures the seat that fell vacant after the Court of Appeal nullified Wambui’s election in last year’s polls.

“Also note that Jubilee Government has only three parties; TNA, URP and Narc. Any other party claiming support for Jubilee is as good as an opposing side,” she said.

Nairobi businessman, Stanley Livondo warned that Othaya risked being ranked as an Opposition constituency if they failed to re-elect Wambui. He said the CORD coalition was using small parties to establish roots in Central Kenya.
