County staff risk sack over residences

Nyamira, Kenya: Nyamira County Governor John Nyagarama has ordered all senior officers residing outside the region to relocate or risk losing their jobs.

The governor expressed concern that majority of top county executives and other employees in Nyamira County reside in neighbouring Kisii County.

Speaking to members of the public on Tuesday, Nyagarama was categorical that their continued stay in Kisii or any other town was against the spirit of devolution.

“Our county is Nyamira and if you cook bad food here, you must eat it. There is no other way. You must stay within even if it means in a grass thatched house,” said Nyagarama.

He added that for the county residents to feel the impact of devolution, all county employees needed to spend whatever they were earning within Nyamira to boost the economy of locals and trigger trade and investment.
