Gun battle from inter-clan accusations kill 4 in Baragoi, Samburu

By STANDARD DIGITAL REPORTER

Four people have died from gunshot wounds following renewed clashes in Baragoi, Samburu County.

The clashes in Waso Rongai village early Friday also left six people injured from gunshots, two of them in critically condition were being airlifted to Nairobi by the Kenya Red Cross for further treatment Friday evening.

The clashes are said to have arisen after two clans accused each other of cattle rustling.

The killings come a month after the government renewed its ultimatum for residents to surrender unlicensed guns.

Interior Cabinet Joseph ole Lenku had warned that these who defy the ultimatum would be forcefully disarmed.

However, months after the tough talk, the government is yet to embark on the forceful disarmament, with cattle rustling going on unabated.

In November 2012, 42 police officers died in confrontation with bandits in the same locality during a mission to recover stolen livestock.
