Mumo Matemu to take office as Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission boss

NAIROBI, KENYA: Mumo Matemu is set to take office as the chair of the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) after he is sworn in by Chief Justice Willy Mutunga on Monday afternoon.

The CJ is expected to preside over Matemu’s swearing-in at 3pm at the Supreme Court building in Nairobi.

Matemu’s return follows a Court of Appeal ruling that overturned a High Court order that barred him from assuming office.

The Appellate Court noted that High Court while ruling on the suitability of Matemu to assume the office as EACC boss, usurped the powers of parliament.

High court had nullified Matemu’s appointment and said President Kibaki, Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Parliament ignored concerns raised about his suitability for the office.
