Police raid Nairobi city estate in search of deported ‘drug lords’

KENYA: Police have raided several homes in Nairobi’s South C area in search of suspected Nigerian drug lord Eneke Chimenze alias Anaeke Chimezie in vain.

The raids were staged at the weekend amid claims that another trafficker who had been deported Komani Camara alias Boss Kamara from Guinea had been spotted at a mosque on Friday.

Highly placed sources who asked not to be named said they were pursuing intelligence to the effect that Camara is also in Nairobi barely a month after his deportation.

“We have information that he was spotted in a mosque praying but we are yet to confirm that. Efforts to verify the information are ongoing,” said the source.

Camara was among about 30 foreigners who were kicked out of the country in June over drug trafficking claims.

Other reports indicated another suspected kingpin Anthony Chinedu could be the one using Chimenze’s passport to come back to the country but police have denied the claims.

Chimenze is suspected to have sneaked back into the country on Wednesday.

CID director Ndegwa Muhoro told The Standard the suspect they are looking for is Chimenze. “As far as we are concerned the person we are looking for is Chimenze and he will be arrested. We are determined to ensure these criminals are out of the country,” said Muhoro adding several units of police are on the search.

At the same time an immigration officer was charged with assisting Chimenze to enter the country illegally. The court denied Mr Edward Kabiu Njau bail and ordered him to stay in police custody pending completion of investigation.

The court heard he unlawfully allowed Mr Chimenze into the country through the Namanga.

Police sources said the fugitive is suspected to be hiding in Nairobi where he has an elaborate network of accomplices he had recruited into the drug business.

Speaking during the burial of the mother to Mombasa County CID boss Henry Ondiek at Muhoroni, Muhoro assured residents he will work with the county government to protect the youth from being recruited into illegal gangs.

Meanwhile, Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale has accused powerful senior officers in government of abating the fight against drug abuse in the country.
