All technical colleges to get ISO certificates

Kakamega, Kenya: The Government has launched a drive to ensure all technical institutes are ISO certified by December to enhance efficiency.

According to a Ministry of Education official, this follows complaints from graduates who claim to have papers that cannot guarantee them recognition in the job market.

Director of Technical Education Owate Wambayi said the ISO certification will help get rid of the wastefulness in the institutions that has been noted in the past.

“ISO certification in technical institutions is important because it will allow us to deal with the problem of wastefulness that has characterised many of our institutions,” he noted.

Mr Wambayi was speaking at Friends College Kaimosi on Saturday, after the institution attained its certificate upon satisfying Kenya Bureau of Standards by meeting all the requirements for certification to ISO 9001:2008.

He said by meeting the international standards, the technical institutes will enhance their image worldwide and thus parents will have the trust to take their children there for the available courses.
