Five children killed by father buried

Five children who were hacked to death by their father last week were Tuesday laid to rest in an emotional burial ceremony.

A huge crowd turned up to give the innocent souls their last respects at Chesirikwa village, Kuresoi North. Their father John Kiprono Kirui, 36, who hanged himself after the deadly assault, was also buried.

The service was cut short after women and children started wailing as they fled from the tents.

Starting with that of the father, the bodies were lowered to the graves before pastors conducted a short prayer service.

The widow, Betty Kirui, who escaped the jaws of death was assisted to throw soil into her children’s graves evading that of the husband as directed by the church members.

On arrival from Molo hospital mortuary, the slain children were taken to PAG Church Chesirikwa for a memorial service.

Church members especially women cried uncontrollably as the five coffins were removed from the vehicle. As prayers went on, the father’s coffin was laid at his home where it arrived on Monday as arranged by the relatives and the family.

The father is said to have turned his anger on his children following a domestic row with his wife in an incident that shocked not just the village but the entire nation.
