12 killed as communities clash at border

Tension was high in Moyale after violence erupted between Borana and Garre communities at the border of Kenya and Ethiopia.

A source claimed that more than 12 people were killed in the battle at Chamuki, two kilometres from Moyale town, in Ethiopia. At least 12 people were killed and 20 others hospitalised at Moyale Ethiopia Hospital. Six more were admitted to Moyale District Hospital in Kenya and four others at Airstrip Medical Centre.

The clashes have created tension in both Moyale Kenya and Ethiopia where businesses have been shut and transport halted.

During the chaos, several houses in Chamuki and Shawabarre were burnt. Moyale OCPD Nehemiah Lang’at urged public to remain calm.

He assured that police officers were vigilant and were there to protect lives and property.
