Internally displaced persons ( IDPs) who were raped and defiled at the height of the 2008 post-election violence are appealing to the Government to help them access medication.
The victims, most of whom were infected with HIV, say that life has become unbearable due to deplorable conditions in IDP camps.
Those living at Gwa Kung’u camp in Nyandarua regretted that they were unable to access medication because of lack of finances.
Their spokesperson Susan Nyambura said majority of them were critically ill since they could not access anti-retroviral drugs ( ARVs).
“Most of them cannot even travel to the nearest health centre, which is more than ten kilometres away, as they are critically ill,” Ms Nyambura said.
She observed that their condition was worsened by the fact that the Government has not provided them with proper balanced diet.
“The last time the Government supplied us with relief food was three months ago and the victims, most of who are suffering from Aids, cannot take the drugs since they require a proper diet,” Nyambura said.
