Two men arrested with fake tax stamps

Police in Busia have arrested two people found in possession of fake rubber-stamps.

The pair had fake stamps for the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Zetech University and the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).

Bottles containing chemicals used to make the stamps were also recovered in the swoop. The two were arrested while in their office at the One-Stop Border Post (OSBP).

Three forex bureau officers were also arrested during the Saturday morning sting operation. The three are said to have been collaborating with the suspects to con unsuspecting Kenyans.

The suspects who were being held at the Busia Police Station over the weekend are expected to be arraigned tomorrow (Monday) at the Busia Law Courts.

County Commander John Nyoike said the fake stamps were being used to produce fake documents for the county government of Busia and gullible Kenyans.

The arrest follows complaints from members of the public.

“We believe the suspects have been using the fake stamps to make fake documents for Busia County government and other Kenyans,” said Nyoike.

The police boss called on the county government to always seek assistance in genuine government offices to avoid being conned.
