Vihiga Governor Ottichilo suspends top staff

Governor Wilbur Ottichilo (pictured) has suspended his Chief of Staff Noah Okaya.

The suspension comes days after the Employment and Labour Relations Court dismissed a case seeking stay orders on a motion passed last year by the county assembly to have Mr Okaya suspended and investigated.

In a letter addressed to the chairperson of the County Public Service Board (CPSB), Dr Ottichilo said he was complying with the court ruling.

This is to request the County Public Service Board to, pursuant to Section 59(1)C of the County Government Act, to proceed with the recommendations and have Mr Okaya investigated on allegations raised against him in accordance with the Constitution, the Count Governments Act, the Fair Administrative Action Act, and all applicable laws,” part of the letter read.

In March last year, members of county assembly passed a motion to compel Ottichilo to relieve Okaya off his duties for allegedly usurping powers of legal offices.

In his letter, the governor asked Okaya to cooperate with investigators. He also urged the CPSB to conduct a speedy probe and provide him with a report of their findings as quickly as possible.
