No floods yet for Budalangi residents

With the ongoing heavy rains in many parts of the country, many people expected the perennial floods-prone Budalang'i region to be affected.

For a region that is synonymous with floods, it was expected to be the first to experience the effects of El Nino, but that is yet to happen.

On the contrary, the area is calm with no destruction in sight, thanks to the effort of a disaster management team that was put in place by former President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga in 2009.

"Floods occur in Budalang'i when the River Nzoia catchment areas of Cherangany and Mt Elgon experience heavy downpour," said Lucy Mbithia of River Nzoia Dykes.
