Vihiga Deputy Governor: Singapore did not deport me

KENYA: Vihiga Deputy Governor Caleb Amaswache has denied claims that he was deported from Singapore for being drunk and immoral.

Amaswache said allegations that he was deported were part of a wider scheme by his political detractors to malign him by portraying him as not morally upright as a leader holding the position of Deputy Governor.

The official had travelled to the the Asian country last week to attend the Annual Affordable Housing Conference.

Amaswache said he forgot some of his documents, including the invitation letter, which would have allowed him entry into Singapore. The authorities denied him entry and booked him into another plane headed for Nairobi immediately.

“I departed from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi on April 13 for Singapore and arrived on April 14 at around 2.30am. During the security check at Changi International Airport, I realised that I had forgotten to pack documents for entry into Singapore and security officers declined to allow me into the country,” said Amaswache.

REFUND CASH

During a press conference at the county headquarters on Monday, Amaswache said he tried in vain to convince them to allow him attend the function and efforts by a key member of committee that organised the international conference, Ms Aisha Pinde, to convince security officers to allow him, in did not bear fruit.

“I have with me documents from Singapore immigration office and my passport that do not bear any documentation to show that I was deported,” he said.

The deputy governor further declared he will not be leaving the country for any other trips abroad soon, following the ordeal. He was booked into another flight on arrival after travelling for over 13 hours.

“For accountability purposes I will refund the Sh445,000 allocated to me as per diem for the foreign trip,” he said.

He explained that he wanted to attend the conference because his county is planning to build decent houses for the poor.

“The conference in Singapore was timely as it was going to help us gain experience in new technology for the project alongside seeking donors to support the programme and enable more people to benefit,” he noted.
