AP officer found dead along road in West Maragoli location

An Administration Police officer was hacked to death by unknown people in West Maragoli location.

The incident took place barely a day after two victims of the Mandera bus attack were buried just a few metres from the scene of crime.

The corporal attached to the Solongo AP post was found killed a few metres from his work station.

County Commissioner Boaz Cherotich said the body of the officer was found lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the road yesterday morning.

“We suspect that he was waylaid by a gang while heading back to the post,” said Mr Cherotich.

He said the motive of the incident was yet been established as the officer even had his mobile phone in the pocket.

Cherotich said the officer had gone to Chavakali market on Sunday evening, where he is suspected to have spent the night and may have met his death while returning to the station yesterday morning.

Area chief Hagai Asenah blamed on the runaway insecurity in the area on criminals from the neighbouring Kakamega County.

“This region has been insecure for many years because we are bordering Kakamega County from where criminals cross the border to attack our people,” he said.

several attacks

According to the residents, several people have been attacked on the same road and the area is also notorious for illicit brews’ trade.

“This area has remained insecure and one cannot venture out past 7pm despite the AP camp being a few metres away,” said Francis Luvisa, a resident.

Governor Moses Akaranga, who visited the scene, also condemned the killing. “It is very worrying when an individual attacks an officer tasked with ensuring their security,” said Mr Akaranga.

Cherotich banned night discos and warned motorcycle riders against operating late into the night.

“The county security committee will provide sufficient security during the festive season, and we are warning all the bars and restaurant owners who operate past the licensed time that they will be arrested,” he said.
