Bungoma County: Bungoma Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) supporting Coalition for Reforms and Democracy senatorial aspirant Moses Wetang’ula have lauded the High Court’s ruling that their preferred candidate was free to seek any elective post.

Addressing the Press, the leaders led by West Nalondo Ward Rep James Wafula and his Kimaet counterpart Simiyu Wechuli said the court’s decision was a milestone for Mr Wetang’ula that would enable him recapture his seat. The by-election is slated for December 19.

The MCAs said they were open to any support given to their candidate whom they described as a fearless and development conscious leader.

“A good leader is seen by his deeds and Wetang’ula has proved to be the best leader to help residents of Bungoma. Let us all support and vote for him so that we can realise development in our county,” said Mr Wechuli.

They said Wetang’ula has a track record for initiating development projects in Bungoma County and called on area residents to re-elect him to the Senate.

Mr Wafula said Bungoma High Court judge Francis Gikonyo had put the issue straight and asked voters to elect Wetang’ula, who is young and energetic compared to his rivals who are using propaganda and intimidation to try and get the seat.

On Monday, several MCAs from parties outside CORD threw their weight behind Wetang’ula and promised to campaign for him to recapture the seat.

They included David Barasa (Kimilili Ward, New Ford-Kenya), Ben Kipkut (Chesikaki), Wechuli (Kimaeti, URP) and David Fwaro (South Bukusu, NFK).

They said their endorsement of Wetang’ula did not amount to undermining their parties or party leaders, who are supporting Musikari Kombo.

However, they believe he has an upper hand when it comes to leading the people of Bung
