Emmanuel Bor and Peris Jepchirchir produced brilliant shows in the Central region championships, picking their tickets to the IAAF Permit Meeting/Athletics Kenya national trials set for Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi on Saturday.

In Eastern region, Alex Mureithi, Silas Kingori, Pauline Eapam and Ann Gathoni dominated their races.

Bor and Jepchirchir shrugged off challenges from a star-studded field to claim the honours at the Kapsabet showground on Friday.

Central region, comprising Nandi, Baringo and Uasin Gishu counties, named a squad of 24 athletes and three officials to the national selections, often billed as "a mini world cross country championship".

Bor wore the men's crown in 38:48.9 and will lead the onslaught alongside Solom Kirwa (39:04.4), Edwin Kimaiyo (39:07.3) and Cosmas Birech (39:11.5). Uasin Gishu's Peter Limo (39:26.3) and Geoffrey Kipyego (39:37.4) of Baringo will spice up the team.

Daniel Selel, a former World Youth silver medallist, faded to 13th place in 41:15.1.

Richard Yator proved too strong for his peers, winning the 8km contest in 25:30.2, and will anchor the Central Rift team alongside Josphat Kimutai (25:30.5), Abraham Kibiwott (25:31.1), Alfred Barkach (25:31.5), Edwin Lelgut (25:48.9) and Fredrick Kipkosgei (25:58.7).

In the women's race, Jepchirchir (28:45.9) will need to be at her best to get a ticket to the 41st IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang, China, on March 28.

She stayed ahead of Margaret Chelimo (28:46.3), Sylvia Jepchirchir (30:38.9), Nelly Jebet (30:47.1), Eddah Jepkosgei (30:55.3) and Eunice Jepkorir (30:58.5).

Gladys Koech (21:47.9) beat Rose Jepketer (21:58.6), Winnie Koima (22:15.8), Edna Jerotich (22:30.5), Tegla Biwott (22:50.6) and Vivian Jepkemei (22:53.4) in the Junior Women's race. She faces a fierce battle from Nairobi and South Rift regions, which have claimed a bigger slice of the category at the nationals.

In Eastern region, Alex Mureithi (34:27.1) topped the men's 12km race ahead of Cornelius Kosgei (34:30.3) and James Rukaru (34:31.3). Silas King'ori (22:42.5) carried the men's 8km title beating Hirram Ngatia (22:47.3) and John Kariuki (22:59.2).

Pauline Eapam (26:52.8) will join forces with Monicah Ngige (26:58.9) and Pauline Njeru (27:17.9) in the Senior Women's race while Ann Gathoni (18:11.5), Mary Wangoi (18:24.4) and Caroline Makandi (19:06.8) will fly the Eastern flag in the Junior Women's race.
