Kenya High Commissioner to Australia Isaiya Kabira congratulate Malkia

Kenya High Commissioner to Australia Isaiya Kabira and Kenya Ambassador to Algeria Moi Lemoshira have heaped praise on the National Women's Volleyball team for their historic performance at the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix.

Malkia Strikers defied all odds to beat Peru 3-1 in a thrilling Group Three final match on Sunday in Canberra, Australia.

This came barely a week after the nine time African champions  beat Mexico, Australia and Algeria in the second leg in Algiers.

And after winning their first ever world title and qualify for the Group Two competition next year, the team was hosted for lunch by  Kabira before departing for Nairobi.

"The Kenyan community in Australia is thrilled about the victory. We salute their performance and the fighting spirit they exhibited during the matches in Canberra and wish them well as they prepare for crucial and upcoming tournaments," said Kabira in a communique to Feverpitch.

"I also thank Kenyans for turning up in large numbers to cheer the team on both days. We were happy to have hosted them at the Kenya High Commission and residence to celebrate the success and tell them asante (thank you) and wished them a safe journey back home."

Kabira's sentiments were echoed by his counterpart in Algeria, Lemoshira who said he was happy to be part of the team that has  brings honor and recognition to the nation.

"I am happy for Malkia's historic win and more so the record of winning against Algeria at their own backyard. We were humbled by your presence in Algeria and we wholeheartedly want to wish you all the best in your future assignments," said Lemoshira.

The Kenya Volleyball Federation and team's official Sponsors  National Oil Corporation of Kenya [NOCK] have promised to reward the players handsomely upon arrival.

The triumphant Malkia Strikers are expected back in the country today at 8.10 pm.
