Nairobi; Kenya. Ministry of Information and Communication (Moic) Netball team will be traveling Accra, Ghana, for Africa Netball Senior Club Championship after clinching the National Netball league title.
Since its inception last year, the team has dominated in netball tournaments besides taking part in the East and Central Club Championship last year where they finished third.
According to Moic head coach who is also the national women’s team head coach Millicent Busolo, the girls are improving by the day as they gear up for the continental championships.
Despite this being the first time the team will be taking part in the continental championships, Busolo has his targets set on the medal bracket.
“The team has been training and we will intensify training from Tuesday, after which we will concentrate on final touches before we leave for Ghana,” Busolo told FeverPitch, yesterday.
The team is expected to perform well in Ghana with the services of experienced centre, Joan Makingi who has played for the national team for the last 10 years, Brigitte Nanjala, a striker who is expected to partner with Linah Tarus, an attacker who also plays in the national team.
Paril Simiyu, a defender who is also the national team captain, will be out to ensure that no scores are conceded.
Other players include Violet Wanyama and the captain of the side Catherine Abwao.
Moic won the national league after collecting 30 points, followed closely by Nyeri Stima, while Eldoret Stima managed 24 points for third position.
Western Stima and Kenya Bureau of Standards had 20 points each in the fourth and fifth positions respectively while Kenyatta National Hospital recorded 16 points in the sixth position in the women’s category.
In the men’s category, Prisons defended the title with 24 points and was closely followed by St. John’s Ambulance in the second position with 20 points.
Kenyatta University managed 16 points for third position, while Superlight came fourth with 12 points.
City Council of Nairobi recorded 10 points to finish fifth, while Nabace was sixth after collecting a paltry six points.
