Atwoli’s harsh message to Chebukati ahead of repeat poll

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has asked Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati to man up and ask for more time to conduct the repeat presidential poll slated for October 26.

"Chebukati is not acting bold enough in his decision as a Luhya. He needs to stand up and ask for more time, even if it's three months to adequately prepare for the repeat election," said Francis Atwoli.

This comes after the IEBC Chairman said that they cannot guarantee a credible election on October 26. The IEBC CEO Erza Chiloba has taken a three-week leave with less than a week to the repeat poll as Dr Roselyn Akombe resigned as an IEBC official stating that the IEBC as constituted cannot conduct a credible, free and fair election.

During his speech at a funeral on Saturday October 21, Atwoli pointed out that both National Super Alliance (NASA) and Jubilee need to have a dialogue to understand the rules of the game before the repeat poll.

"There must be dialogue for each side to know who are the handlers of elections and what are the rules of the game," continued the COTU Secretary General.

Atwoli also said that he belongs to neither Jubilee nor NASA and that president Uhuru Kenyatta will not lose his manhood if he agrees to have a dialogue with Raila Odinga.
