Innovation in Home Appliances on the rise

With technological advancements in the field of electronics, many household appliances have gone high-tech.

Whether in terms of design, features, or functionality, the market of household appliances has witnessed the launch of energy and task efficient products in the last decade. There has, in fact, been a proliferation of smart appliances like smart washing machines, smart microwave ovens, and smart air conditioners.

Beyond technology, this growth in the appliances market has been attributed to the rise in disposable income and increased obsolesces of products.

Already, consumer electronics giant LG plans to introduce products based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the home appliances segment by early next year. Currently, the company is in talks with several mobile network service operators to form a partnership to roll out IoT-based products.

By partnering with telcos, LG is looking to address the requirement for a network provider to connect with different appliances in a household. The appliances will be equipped with features such as LG HomeChat and SmartThinQ that enable consumers to control and operate home appliances through smartphones.

During the tech trade show in Las Vegas earlier on this year, LG displayed its range of digital home appliances including the Robot vacuum cleaners that can weave around a nest of wires, the smart air conditioners with LG’s DeepThinq technology that focus on energy-efficient cooling by tracking where your family is in the home and focusing the cooling on those areas.

The Hub Robot is viewed as a user centric and convenient servant. It can play your music, monitor your home energy, and keep tabs on your home’s security. LG also has a mowing robot and a guide robot for airports

The company also teamed up with Amazon to integrate Alexa voice technologies into LG’s products such as the InstaView refrigerator that comes with the WebOS operating system that enables one to look up recipes and stream videos on the refrigerator’s 29-inch touchscreen display. Basically, you can peek inside the refrigerator without opening the door with the InstaView function. And it can order your groceries for you.

Currently, all the appliances being produced by LG have built-in Wi-Fi connectivity ensuring that all the the future platforms will be compatible.
