Kenya has
recorded 278 new COVID-19 cases after a total of 3,053 samples were
tested in the last 24 hours
bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 8,528.
Speaking in
Makueni County on, Wednesday July 8, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe also stated that two
more people succumbed to the disease bringing the total to 169.
A total of
89 patients were also discharged from the hospital bringing total number of recoveries
to 2,593.
While touring the county to access the level of COVID-19
preparedness, the health CS said that most counties were ready to fight the
pandemic.
“I am impressed by the level of preparedness by most areas
visited. Makueni County, in particular, has been extremely organized, and has
demonstrated a high standard of readiness,” said Kagwe.
He also stated that the virus has reached community level
with only five counties not having reported a single COVID-19 case.
The health CS said they hired 252 healthcare personnel for
Makueni and the process to hire an addition of 110 is ongoing.
“There can never be a higher calling by an individual than
what you are currently doing. As a nation we are indebted to you. We have hired
252 healthcare personnel of all cadres to boost human resource capacity, and
the process of hiring another 110 is ongoing,” stated Kagwe.
