Molo-based K24 journalist George Kori was on Wednesday laid to rest at their home in Gatura village in a ceremony attended by family, local leaders and fellow journalists.

Kori, 34, was found dead at their farm on Sunday after going missing for five days in what is believed to be a case of suicide.

Governor Lee Kinyanjui characterised the death as "a big blow to the county and to people who depended on his services".

He said the scribe's reports instigated action from the government. He nonetheless regretted that Molo accounts for more than half of the suicide cases reported in the county, majority of which hits the youth.

Molo MP Kuria Kimani urged men not to view seeking help for mental health as a sign of weakness.

He said if men continue to suffer in silence more lives would be lost through suicide. He expressed optimism that the Mental Health Bill, which is set for a second reading in the National Assembly, will come in handy for persons suffering from depression.

Speaking on behalf of journalists, Bernard Waweru eulogised Kori as a dedicated journalist who mentored many in the profession.

"Kori is among the pioneer journalists in Molo. Through him many have come up and the media industry has grown," said Waweru.

Family representative Julia Wandeti described him as an obedient son who was supportive to his siblings.

"We have lost a great pillar. He was young yet so supportive and resourceful to us. His death came to us as a shocker," said Ms Wandeti.
