Taylor Swift has bowed out of her previously unannounced performance at today's Grammy awards.

The superstar singer had planned a secretive appearance on the broadcast but she has scrapped her plans, according to multiple sources.

News of her cancelling her appearance comes after she made headlines this week when she announced at the Sundance Film Festival premiere of her "Miss Americana" documentary that she struggled with an eating disorder.

The rehearsal lineups for the show describe a “TBA” act believed to have been Swift, Variety reported.

It is possible she was ready to wow viewers with a rendition of “The Man” from her “Lover” album, which was released last year.

Swift is nominated for three Grammys, including Song of the Year for “Lover.”

Swift revealed in her new Netflix documentary, Miss Americana, that she battled a secret eating disorder for years, starving herself and exercising constantly to try to lose weight.

The starlet, 30, opened up about how paparazzi photos and cruel comments online would trigger her to "just stop eating" until she was dangerously thin.

It is not known if Swift's removal from the performance schedule is connected to the former head of the Grammy Awards Deborah Dugan miring the show in a sex scandal day before the 2020 ceremony this week.

Mrs Dugan was president and CEO of the Recording Academy, the organisation behind the Grammys, up until last week when she was suspended from her job.

She was put on "administrative leave" following a "formal allegation of misconduct by a senior female member of the team", according to a spokesperson for the Academy.
