Parents and pupils block head teacher from accessing school

Parents and pupils of a primary school in Homa Bay County blocked their new head teacher from accessing the institution on Wednesday.

The community of Gode Ariyo Primary School in Mbita Sub-County demonstrated in the school and blocked the new head teacher, Evalyne Odhiambo, from accessing the institution.

The protesters chanted songs as they carried leaves inside the school, demonstrating dissatisfaction with head teacher.

Led by the Chairman of the Board of Management John Mitema and his Parents Teachers Association (PTA) counterpart Meshack Obat, the protestors claimed Ms Odhiambo had not posted good results in her previous school.

When contacted, Ms Odhiambo accused the protestors of perpetrating clannism.

“The school I have come from performed better than their school. What they are saying amounts to character assassination,” she said.

The county TSC Director Grace Amira said she was making an enquiry into the matter. “Let me communicate with my officers to see how we can address the issue,” Amira said.

Ms Odhiambo reported to the school on Tuesday to replace Mr Samuel Orwa who had been transferred.

However, she failed to report on Wednesday morning after getting a tip off that the protesters were in school.
