Why 658 candidates will get their KCSE results later

Education CS Prof George Magoha on Wednesday revealed that the ministry had withheld the results of 658 candidates who sat for the 2019 KCSE.

Speaking at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) headquarters in Nairobi, the CS noted that the withheld results will be released once all the verification processes are complete.

“We have withheld results of 658 candidates just for routine checks on small details including accuracy of their names and registration details.

“These results will be released to candidates as soon as the verification process is completed,” said Magoha.

The CS was also bullish regarding cases of cheating in exams saying the combined effort of the multi-agency government monitoring team has brought lots of success.

Close to 100 mobile phones were collected during the exams and in Kisii, 10 impersonators who had connived with unscrupulous people to produce fake photo albums were arrested.

In Nairobi’s Eastleigh, 35 mobile phones were collected from a single centre.

This resulted in cancellation of the results of 1,309 candidates which is lower than 4,519 whose results were cancelled in 2018.

Below is a breakdown of the nature of irregularities recorded in the 2019 KCSE:

  • Unauthorised materials 101
  • Mobile phones 47
  • Impersonation 2
  • Collusion 1,158
  • Causing disturbance 1
