Why President Uhuru Kenyatta extended BBI taskforce term

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, December 12, 2019, extended the term of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) taskforce.

According to State House spokesperson, Kanze Dena, President Uhuru Kenyatta gave more time for the taskforce in order for them to assist in breaking down the report to Kenyans.

“This will largely involve expanding and guiding public participation, and structuring recommendations by Kenyans into implementable action plans,” Kanze Dena said.

She further stated that both the President and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga thanked the Senator Yusuf haji led team for bringing forth an all-inclusive report.

A number of Kenyans online did not take the move lightly because they did not understand why the extension was given and could not hold back their frustrations.

The period of extension is, however, unclear but in accordance with the report the implementation of the report should be within 18 months.
