A family in Bungoma wants the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to institute an inquest into the death of their kin.

Haggai Simiyu,32, is said to have committed suicide using a kitchen knife a week ago at Land Matope in Chwele town.

But Ben Changalwa, a brother to the deceased, claimed Simiyu was stabbed to death and police want to cover the murder.

Mr Changalwa accused the police of taking the body to Bungoma County Referral hospital mortuary without notifying the family. He said police booked the body as unknown person yet they had picked it from his house.

“When postmortem was conducted in the presence of the family members and the police, the pathologist said he was stabbed to death and did not kill himself,” he claimed.

But Bungoma Central Sub County Police Commander, David Kandie, dismissed the accusations leveled against the police saying they have already interrogated the man’s widow and she recorded a statement over the matter.

“Linet Naliaka, the deceased’s widow reported the matter to Chwele police station and wrote a statement denying that she did not kill her husband but he (Simiyu) had killed himself using a kitchen knife,” said Kandie.
