Police who beat up JKUAT student identified, Mutyambai thanks individual who recorded incident

Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai on Tuesday afternoon revealed that the four officers who were caught on video beating up a JKUAT student had been identified.

In a statement to newsrooms, the police boss stated that the four had been interdicted and further action will follow promptly.

Mutyambai lauded the person who recorded the video and thanked Kenyans who made it trend.

“We commend the individual who had the presence of mind to record the incident and thank all Kenyans who made it go viral.

“The NPS remains focused on maintaining a peaceful environment and continues to urge members of the public to report any suspicious characters or activities,” said the IG.

JKUAT students held demonstrations on Monday over rising cases of insecurity in Juja and cited a number of instances where students were stabbed and robbed near the institution.

They added that the attacks happen as early as 7pm and their lives are in danger.

The confrontation between the officers and the students led to a huge traffic snarl-up along the busy Thika Superhighway and at some point, touts and drivers engaged the students in running battles in a bid to clear the road.
