Ethic’s Tarimbo deleted from YouTube despite apology

Tarimbo, a song by Kenyan music group Ethic Entertainment, has been deleted from YouTube.

A spot-check by Ureport on Saturday confirmed that indeed the song had been deleted.

Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua took to social media to laud the move by Google saying the owner of the channel that uploaded the video had been warned.

“Tarimbo is now totally deleted from YouTube and the channel owner served first warning.

“After a third violation, the channel will be totaling deactivated. We thank Google for supporting our efforts to clean the digital space and make it safe for children,” wrote Mutua.

Adding: “Soon such filth like 10/10 will also be off air and those using such channels to corrupt the morals of our children will have their recompense here and in the life to come.”

Last week, Ethic apologised to their fans after the song caused a stir.

Through a series of tweets, they stated that they did not intend to objectify women in their songs and they strongly condemned rape.

“It has come to our attention that our latest single ‘Tarimbo’ has stirred up mixed reactions and elicited various negative interpretations from different quarters.

“As recording artists, it is our sole duty to entertain our fans and NOT deploy our content to propagate hate against any person, most importantly women,” read a tweet.

Mutua, however, noted that the apology was not enough and the group should take responsibility for its actions.

Further, he urged the singers to change their behavior and act in a more respectful manner.
