SUMMARY

His sentiments did not go down well with some netizens who asked him to be sensitive during this period.

This, however, did not deter Miguna who went ahead to say that the recklessness and carelessness of government officials should not be tolerated.

Just hours after the car that plunged into the Likoni channel was retrieved, Lawyer Miguna Miguna took to Twitter to dissect the exercise, bashing the Kenya Navy for incompetence.

He also said that it was shameful that South African divers were called in to retrieve the bodies of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu.

“Kenya has no Navy. Kenya has no trained and well-equipped emergency or disaster response team. Amanda and Mariam wouldn't have died if the Ferry Service was operated competently.

“There were no "strong currents." The car was found where it sank,” he wrote.

His sentiments did not go down well with some netizens who asked him to be sensitive during this period.

This, however, did not deter Miguna who went ahead to say that the recklessness and carelessness of government officials should not be tolerated.

“56 years after independence, it shouldn't have required South Africans to retrieve the bodies of Amanda and Mariam.

“If the Kenya Navy cannot retrieve a vehicle and victims of such preventable tragedies, whom can they defend? No wonder @KagutaMuseveni occupies Migingo by force!” he said.

Adding: “Mariam had not placed the vehicle in "reverse" as zombies had speculated. She was seated with her daughter at the back of the vehicle like most motorists do in Kenya on a daily basis as they use the Ferry Service. We must stop coddling incompetence and recklessness by the despots.”

The bodies of Mariam and Amanda were found in the car that sunk on September 29, 2019.

When the wreck was pulled out, the two bodies were found in an embraced position, indicating that they breathed their last while locked together.

They appear to have been flung backward by some violent motion as the car dipped into the waters.

They could desperately have moved to the back seat to try to break through the back window as the car sunk headlong.
