Raila speaks on handpicking Kibra by-election aspirant

ODM leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday dismissed claims that he has a preferred candidate in the upcoming Kibra by-election.

In a video seen by Ureport, Odinga assured the aspirants that he has no favourite and no one has been issued with a certificate.

"These are your youth, you know them and I do not love anyone more than the other.

"They are all my children… the rumour being propagated that I handed a certificate to my preferred candidate is a lie,” he said.

Further, Odinga urged all the aspirants seeking ODM’s ticket to treat the exercise as a friendly match since they will need each other even after the by-election.

"The nominations will be free and fair because this is a friendly match. I will guide whoever will emerge victorious,” he remarked.

ODM will conduct its nominations on Saturday, September 7, 2019, and 11 aspirants will battle it out to face Jubilee Party’s McDonald Mariga.

The by-election is scheduled for November 7.

The Kibra seat fell vacant after the demise of Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer.
