Kenyan man in Texas gets life sentence for raping elderly patient

Anthony Mamboleo Nyakeo, a Kenyan man in Texas, United States, has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting a 74-year-old patient.

According to Dallas News, Nyakeo, 53, was convicted of two counts of aggravated sexual assault of an elderly or disabled person.

The victim, who lived at the Woodridge Health and Rehabilitation Center where Nyakeo worked, was raped in January 2018.

She was suffering from Alzheimer’s and nurses who were taking care of her reported seeing blood in her underwear.

A medical exam found evidence of vaginal tearing consistent with sexual abuse, and staff recovered DNA during a sexual assault exam that was eventually used to tie Nyakeo to the assault.

He, however, maintained that he is innocent, saying someone took his DNA from a used condom and planted it in the victim’s body.

The lead prosecutor in the case argued that the community would be safer without Nyakeo.

"We are an aging community and we each deserve the peace of mind of knowing we will be treated with dignity when such time comes.

"The defendant violated that right, and the jury demonstrated with their sentence this kind of abuse against the vulnerable will not be tolerated here,” he said.

According to Dallas News, prosecutors wrote in court documents that Nyakeo had also sexually harassed his coworkers and that he attempted to leave the state during the investigation.
