Colleges get Sh16.4 billion equipment

The government has equipped 144 Technical Vocational Education and Training Institutions (TVETs) with equipment worth Sh16.4 billion.

According to Vocational Training Permanent Secretary Kevit Desai (pictured), the State has set aside another Sh14.4 million to train tutors.

Speaking during the launch of a four-month Agricultural Value Addition training for tutors, Dr Desai said the training, sponsored by the Ministry of Education under the Kenya-China TVET project, is being conducted at Konoin Technical Training College.

“This marks a milestone in equipping our TVET trainers with knowledge on agricultural value-addition and the trainers will in turn facilitate training of our youth,” he said.

Desai said the trainees will develop a key pool of resources that will be used to train other TVET trainers in all 144 TVET institutions.

The PS said another 152 TVET trainers have received trainings in mechanics, welding, mechanical, automotive and agricultural machinery technology.
