Boy, 5, dies after mother’s car rolls

A five-year-old boy died on the spot following a fatal road accident along the Iten-Kabarnet road in Elgeyo Marakwet county.

Anne Rono, a banker was driving to Kabarnet town in Baringo county when her car veered off the road near Chepyogot trading centre in Keiyo North constituency and rolled several times, killing her son on the spot.

The 36-year-old banker and another child said to be aged below ten years sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to Tambach Sub-County Referral hospital for treatment.

Keiyo North sub-county police commander Moses Kanyi yesterday said the vehicle has been towed for inspection as investigations to ascertain the cause of the Sunday accident begins.

Mr Kanyi said preliminary reports indicate that the driver might have lost control of the vehicle as she negotiated sharp bents on the meandering road that cuts across the Kerio escarpments.

“We are waiting for the inspection report to ascertain whether the car had mechanical problems,” the police commander said, urging motorists to exercise caution while driving on the rugged terrain.

He said the body of the minor was taken to Iten county referral hospital.
