Sonko awarded Doctor of Excellence Degree

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Wednesday stated that he had received an honorary Doctorate Degree of Excellence from the European Digital University at the University of Dubai.

Sonko expressed his delight at this achievement and vowed to continue championing for the rights of the poor.

“I'm delighted to be conferred with an honorary doctorate Degree of Excellence by the European Digital University at the University of Dubai, for my positive role in changing the society.

“I will continue with my Good Deeds by championing for the rights of the less fortunate members of the society through transparent and transformative leadership,” he said.

Further, he maintained that he would expand his Rescue Team to ensure the needs of the less fortunate are taken care of.

“I will also carry on with personal support to the society through the Sonko Rescue Team which has been consistent in its charitable work,” he said.

However, a spot check by Ureport revealed that the said institution (European Digital University) is a group that hosts Blockchain seminars and is based in the USA.

Also, it does not have accreditation to confer degrees.

In recent weeks, Sonko has pushed for the setting up of more cancer screening and testing centres following the demise of Kibra MP Ken Okoth and the late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso.

The governor noted that cancer is taking away the lives of both the rich and the poor and something needs to be urgently done to curb the situation.

He called on other governors to pull in the same direction although Kisumu governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o had a different opinion.

Nyong’o stated that more emphasis should be put on research to ensure we have cancer specialists and that way, treatment will be more targeted.
