People used to make fun of my face — Vijana Tuache Mihadarati singer Stivo

Steven Otieno aka Stivo Simple Boy is quickly becoming a hit after his song Vijana Tuache Mihadarati started getting airplay.

The song basically asks the youth to say no to drugs and warns of the dire consequences of drug abuse.

Recently, Stivo opened up about his musical journey and how people made fun of his looks when he was starting out.

He admitted that it was not easy but he remained focused on achieving his dreams regardless of the negative feedback he was getting.

"Walikua wananichezea kwanza na venye sura yangu inakaa. Walisema ati ooh sura yangu ni kama monkey… inauma but itabidi uzoee, najiamini.

"(People used to say I look like a monkey. You know, it is painful but there was nothing I could do but just persevere. I believe in myself),” he noted.

The artiste further added that we should never despise people because you never know who will come through for you later in life.

"Sisi wote ni wana wa Mungu. Kila mtu ni mwema hapa duniani.Huwezi jua kwamba siku moja huyo monkey ndio atakuja kukusaidia siku za usoni.”

(We were all made by God, everyone in this world is good in his own right, you never know…the monkey may be the one to help you in future), he remarked.

Stivo started singing in 2006 in Kibera and revealed that he looks up to Tanzanian artiste turned politician Professor J.
