A mum has pleaded for the return of her daughter after the infant was abducted by her machete-wielding father.

Raven Williams last saw her 1-year-old daughter Amani in CCTV footage filmed in the back garden of their home in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on Saturday.

The mum frantically called police when she saw her husband via a surveillance camera app on her phone setting fire to a pile of clothes.

Mrs. Williams says she became involved in a heated argument with her husband on Saturday night which prompted her husband's erratic behaviour, ABC News 11 reported .

"I get an alert on my phone and I look live and see my husband dragging all of my things out to the backyard and lighting them aflame," said Williams.

"I see my husband on camera still standing in the backyard with police officers in the front yard. Moments after with a machete in his hands and my daughter on his hip he slices the cameras," said Williams.

Mrs. Williams said she was forced to file a domestic violence protective order against her spouse.

Fayetteville Police has not managed to find Christopher Williams or her daughter - but claim she is not in imminent danger.

They have not issued and amber alert in the search for the child, requiring authorities to track down missing young people at risk of serious harm or death.

"There's not an active search for the child as much as there is a search for Mr. Williams," said Lt. Gary Womble.

"The child is with the father and until we get evidence that the child is in danger it doesn't meet the criteria for an Amber Alert."

The mum has accused detectives of not doing enough to help locate Amani.

"I don't know what he's capable of now," said Williams.
