Suspect in police murder surrenders to detectives

The suspected killer of a policeman at Keroka, Nyamira County has surrendered to detectives after a four-day hide and seek game with them.

The suspect is said to have stabbed Administration Police Constable Samuel Ngugi Wamboi on the night of Thursday at Valent Club in Keroka Township.

According to Keroka Subcounty Police Commander Walter Abondo, the suspect has been on the run since the time of committing the act until yesterday when he surrendered to authority.

The suspect works with Kenya Electricity Generation Company.

"The suspect came by himself and we have done preliminary requirements for the legal process to begin," Abondo said.

Already, the suspect has been subjected to psychiatric tests to ascertain his mental fitness to stand the trial which, according to Abondo may be related to the killing.

"We are through with the procedural preparation of suspects and we expect him to be arraigned any time today (Tuesday)," Abondo said.

The officer thanked the locals and especially bodaboda riders within the town who volunteered information that led to the identification of the suspect.

"If it were not for members of the public and bodaboda riders, then we could not even know who was behind the killing and even the suspect wouldn't have surrendered," he said.
