40k guaranteed as Governor Sonko seeks answers over alleged harassment of breastfeeding mother

After a picture of a woman seated on top of a vehicle went viral, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has reacted.

This follows allegations that the woman was arrested by Nairobi county officers.

On Wednesday, Governor Sonko took to Facebook to express his reservation on the incident.

He called on the public to provide further details of the incident to facilitate appropriate action.

“I am still disturbed by this case which we are still investigating for our necessary action and dismissal of the officers involved. I'm appealing to whoever has a video clip of how this poor woman was arrested and made to sit on top of this kanjo van,” wrote Sonko on Facebook.

The woman was reportedly selling her goods on the street before she was arrested by the county officers.

According to Governor Sonko, the woman was “allegedly arrested, roughed up, tear gassed and later taken to be locked up at central police station.”

According to witnesses, she attempted to plead with the officers to release her goods, but her request was denied. This is when she resorted to climbing on top of the county vehicle and began breastfeeding her child.

At the time the woman made the move, the county officers had parked the vehicle in order to have lunch.

The county boss is now requesting anyone with video footage of the incident to share with him.

“I am trying to establish how this mother went to the top of the vehicle when she was breastfeeding. If anyone has video footage send to 0722886600/0722156700. Reward 40k,” wrote Governor Sonko.
