Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru speech during the launch of Team Embrace movement had all hallmarks of no to Tanga-Tanga movement.
She has seemingly shifted allegiance by rallying behind Team Embrace: whose agenda is directly opposite of Tanga-tanga, save for the femicide issue.
With Tanga-Tanga having a cautious approach towards president Uhuru-Raila handshake, Team Embrace is rallying the country in full support of the course between the two opponents-turned-friends.
Waiguru on Friday during a rally in Murang'a scolded Mt Kenya leaders who had started earlier campaigns in support of DP Ruto saying their actions were premature and that the DP was not guaranteed of their support.
Speaking in Kikuyu dialect Waiguru said: “former vice presidents never campaigned when their bosses were in power. Let everyone wait and we shall organize ourselves”.
Waiguru also added that for DP Ruto to be supported a raft of conditions will have to be met the same way he presented such conditions to them.
“When he (DP Ruto)) was coming for negotiations with President Uhuru, he came with his conditions, we also have our conditions before we decide who to support in 2022,” she said.
Contrary to team Tanga-tanga outright reservation on Referendum issue, Waiguru boldly said the country ought to be discussing the change of the Constitution rather than 2022 elections.
“We should have a discussion on the referendum and not 2022 politics because the region should be wary of the aftermath of President Kenyatta’s term,” she said.
The Governor was in the past seen as one of DP Ruto's key foot soldiers in Mt Kenya Region before she went into 'hiding' as she could not be spotted in DP Ruto recent rallies in the region.
One time at a church function she openly told off Moses Kuria’s presidential ambition and said the region was solidly behind Ruto.
With DP Ruto and his Tanga-Tanga members having said no to Referendum, is Waiguru, who has been rumoured as potential Deputy Presidential candidate, drawing a political battle-line with the DP?
Ostensibly, by supporting the Handshake wholeheartedly, the writing on the wall is clear that Waiguru no longer conform to DP Ruto political agenda.
