A monster dad has been spared jail for throwing his one-year-old daughter off the roof of his home during a housing protest.

The baby girl fortunately survived after a police officer caught her in mid-air at the illegal shack settlement in Joe Slovo township, Kwadwesi, South Africa.

The 38-year-old father was originally charged with attempted murder after hurling his baby off his property during a demonstration about the imminent demolition of homes at the camp.

However, he reportedly dodged prison yesterday by pleading guilty to the less serious charge of child abuse, with magistrates handing him a one-year jail sentence, suspended for five years, and a £265 fine.

Police attempted to bring the man and baby down from the roof safely

The criminal was pictured dangling his baby by her leg and waving her around to the crowd of cops below, during a protest in April last year.

Within minutes of police attempting to bring him down, the dad dramatically threw his one-year-old daughter into the air.

Incredibly, the tot was caught by a police officer and returned to her mother, overseen by social services.

The heartless father was then put in a chokehold by police, dragged to the ground and arrested.

Protesters allegedly chanted 'throw, throw, throw' while the man was dangling his baby from the roof.

Members of both the South African Police Service (SAPS) and PE Metro Police were at the settlement to ensure the safety of the demolition team.

There were reportedly clashes between demonstrators and officers as the demolition crews tried to destroy the properties.

Is technology going to save the world. . . or kill it?
