Former Mombasa Golf Club’s Lady Captain Mary Mariga braved the ongoing cold and wet weather conditions to claim the 2019 Ladies Medal at the par 71 Mombasa course on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 18, Mariga posted 86 nett to win the Division One title in the one-day tournament that was sponsored by the club.

Despite the harsh weather condition, Mariga’s victory came after rolling a single par at the shortest par-three-12th hole, added seven double bogeys against three triple bogeys in both nines.

“It’s cold, windy and the course extremely wet. Most of the greens could not hold the ball but am glad for the victory,” said Mariga.

The club’s lady captain Susan Mwangi, playing off handicap 27, posed 84nett to triumph in Division Two.

In the April 2019 Mug, handicap 9 George Githinji was the Division One winner with 76 nett while handicap 15 Tirus Githaiga, on 76 nett, was the Division Two winner.

Handicap 21 Lawrence Odhiambo, on 77 nett, won in Division Three.

At the par 72 Ruiru course, home club’s handicap 16 Thomas Mwaura carded 39 Stableford points to emerge the overall winner of the 2019 Britam sponsored tourney played on Saturday.

The event that attracted 145 golfers saw handicap 19 Charles Wachira claim the Men winner title on 38 points.

Handicap 23 Gideon Gathara, on 37 points, was the Men runner-up and the third-placed men winner was handicap 25 Duncan Maina on 37 points.

Shobna Patel shot 37 points to win the Lady’s title.
