Landlady’s house set on fire after she allegedly killed tenant over Sh500 rent

A landlady’s house in Bungoma was set on fire by angry residents after she allegedly killed one of the tenants over Sh500 rent money on Wednesday 17 April.

The police saved the 31-year-old landlady Loice Kasembeli, who has been nicknamed Mama Kelele by the neighbors and her husband from being lynched by the angry neighbors.

According to the residents, the deceased tenants who police chose to keep the name hidden had not been seen for a while, and after storming the landlady’s house, they found his body.

The incident which took place at Mpeli Village in Chwele Market, Kabuchai Constituency in Bungoma County, happened after the deceased was involved in an argument with the landlady.

One of the landlady’s neighbors, Florence Nasambu said that the deceased went to Kasembeli’s house on Wednesday to ask for drinking water.

However, the landlady, during her testimony, said that the victim was drunk when he went knocking at her door.

Body of the deceased was found with injuries on the neck and was hanging from a leso tied on the roof of the house. He leaves behind a wife and a 2-year-old baby.

David Kandie, the Bungoma Central Sub-County police commander said that investigations have already been launched into the incident.

Body of the deceased was taken to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.
