Olympic champion and World 800m world record-holder David Lekuta Rudisha has called on Kenyans to pray for his ailing father.

In a Twitter post (5/3/2019), Rudisha asked Kenyans to wish his dad, Daniel Rudisha, a quick recovery.

Kenyans did not disappoint as they responded with heartwarming and welcoming messages.

Reactions:

In past interviews, Rudisha is on record saying that his dad (Daniel) inspired him to become the fastest 800m runner there has ever been.

According to the legend, he tries to be the same inspiration to his kids.

Rudisha has running in his genes. His mother, Naomi, was a 400m hurdler.

His father was part of Kenya’s grand generation of quarter-milers that saw the country win Olympic 4x400m silver in 1968 and gold in ’72.

Rudisha senior was David’s main influence. He anchored Kenya’s 4x4 silver medal-winning team at the Mexico City games. Not only did he pass his athletic ability on to his son, but also invaluable advice.

Rudisha, who was on holiday after returning from leg injury, posted a picture on twitter with him and his daughter enjoying a training session on February 3, 2019.

And along with the photo, the two-time Olympic 800 metres champion posted the message… “Now, whenever I’m out doing some of my sessions around the compound, exercises, she’s always joining in and imitating what I am doing,” #fatherdaughter '.

David Rudisha lost his sister, Harriet Namunyak Rudisha, to cancer in 2017.

Namunyak, 24, died at home in Trans Mara West on November 26, after battling lung cancer.

While addressing hundreds of mourners, the world champion eulogised his late sister as a cheerful person who never held grudges.
