Magoha’s appointment has been praised all over as many deem him to be the right man to handle Kenya’s education

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday announced the sacking of Sports CS Rashid Echesa, replacing him with Education CS Amina Mohamed.

Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Chairman and former University of Nairobi Vice- Chancellor Prof George Magoha has been nominated for appointment as the new Education CS and the move has been lauded by Kenyans.

Netizens welcomed the sacking of Echesa, praising the Head of State for cracking the whip.

Amina’s shift to the Sports docket has, however, elicited mixed reactions, some claiming that she left the Ministry of Education in a mess, especially after mentioning the use of security forces to track down HELB defaulters.

Magoha’s appointment has been praised all over as many deem him to be the right man to handle Kenya’s education due to his vast experience in scholarly matters and a proven track record at KNEC.

Here are some of the reactions:

“In Prof Magoha, former VC of @UON @UKenyatta has appointed a thorough workaholic who understands the intrigues within the Ministry of Education better than anyone else. On this Competence has triumph...”

“Education has the right man. We pray that the gods of impunity and cartels will not torpedo his success.”

“Education is in good hands now, we're at peace.”

“Huyu Amina huwa na mchezo sana...ndio maana amewekwa kwa michezo.”

“HELB force of 74,000 not a joke.”

“While acknowledging how learned Amb. Amina Mohammed is, she will be an understudy on how not to take up a job which you are not professionally matched for. As for Rashid Echesa, that was a joke gone too far. Thoroughly incompetent and unqualified.”
