Jua Kali artisan who scored A plain in KCSE

It is everyone’s dream to do well in national examinations and Moses Oduor had this in mind when he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in 2015 at Sawagongo High School.

Oduor scored an impressive A plain of 81 points and saw this as a turning point in his life, having lost both parents at an early age.

He was called to the Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) but he did not have the funds to pursue his education further.

In an interview with a local daily, Oduor spoke of his strong passion for flying and asked well-wishers to assist him in making his dream come true.

He currently works in Nakuru at a Jua Kali yard where he does a number of menial jobs to make ends meet.

His plight comes just weeks after Ruth Rono, a first-class honours Economics graduate from Baringo, was offered a job after her touching story was widely shared on social media.

Rono graduated from Chuka University in 2015 but faced many challenges at home.

Her mother suffered depression and is currently under the care of her uncles, while her dad is a drunkard.

The graduate has since been forced to do manual jobs to take care of her siblings since she has not been able to get employment.

She also opened up on the struggles of her high school journey and how she walked for kilometers to prevent her sole pair of shoes from being worn out.

“I used to walk barefoot and when I approached the school I put on my only shoes. I did this to prevent the shoes from getting worn out. The trick worked anyway and I passed my KCSE exam, attaining a mean grade of A-minus despite the challenges,” narrated Rono.
